JSSEAS Copyright Guidelines
Article 1 (Objective)
These guidelines set out the handling of copyrights for treatises and other works contained in publications of the Japan Society for Southeast Asian Studies (hereinafter referred to as the “Society”).
Article 2 (Subjects)
- Works that these guidelines cover include the following:
1) Works contained in the JSSEAS Journal, Southeast Asia: History and Culture
2) Works contained in the newsletter
3) Abstracts contributed to the Society’s Symposia and the Conference
- Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding item, these guidelines do not apply to works that are separately copyrighted.
Article 3 (Transfer of Copyright)
Authors shall transfer, among other rights, the following rights to the President of the Society. Therefore, the President shall own the following rights:
1) Reproduction right
2) Translation/adaptation right
3) Right to transmit to the public
Article 4 (Agreement)
The Society shall execute an agreement with authors of subject works to transfer the rights set out in Article 3 to the President of the Society.
Article 5 (Permission from President)
Those who desire to reproduce, translate, adapt, or transmit to the public any work for which the President of the Society has the rights, as set out in Article 3, shall, in advance, obtain permission from the President.
Article 6 (Rights of the Author)
Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 5, the President of the Society shall permit the author to reproduce, translate, adapt, or transmit to the public the author’s works without notice from the author.
Article 7 (Reproduction by Society Members)
Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 5, members of the Society shall, in principle, be permitted to reproduce works for Society projects or other activities.
Article 8 (Transfer of Rights to the New President)
When the presidency of the Society changes, the rights that the President owns as per Article 3 shall be transferred unconditionally to the new President.
Article 9 (Revision to or Repeal of the Guidelines)
These guidelines shall be revised or repealed upon approval by a plenary meeting.
Supplementary Provisions
These guidelines take effect on November 30, 2008.
