The Japan Society for Southeast Asian Studies Award (JSSEAS Award), inaugurated in 2002, is intended to honor the the accomplishments of young, enthusiastic scholars engaged in Southeast Asian Studies based in Japan, and to support and contribute to the development of Japanese study of that field. Each year this Award recognizes an outstanding publication by a young member of the Society, written in either Japanese or English, published in the last three years and making a contribution to international academia.

In principle, this Award goes to one publication each year, with an accompanying financial value of 250,000 yen.
