JSSEAS Research Aid Fund Policy

Article 1 (Fund Establishment)

 

The Japan Society for Southeast Asian Studies (JSSEAS) establishes the JSSEAS Research Aid Fund (hereinafter referred to as the “Fund”) with the aim of promoting the research activities of the society members and improving and advancing research about Southeast Asian histories and cultures.

 

  1. The Fund shall be established based on money transferred from the general account of the Society and contributions.

 

Article 2 (Financial Resources)

 

Financial resources required for implementing projects intended to achieve the goal set out in Article 1 shall be allocated from the Fund and the proceeds arising from the Fund.

 

Article 3 (Projects)

 

Using the Fund,  the following projects shall be implemented:

 

(1) Subsidies to young researchers with no regular occupation

(2) Other projects improving and advancing research activities

 

Article 4 (Fund Management)

 

The Fund shall be managed by the JSSEAS Board of Directors in the safest and most advantageous manner.

 

Article 5 (Details of Policy Implementation)

 

Detailed provisions about the implementation of this policy are set out separately.

 

Bylaws concerning JSSEAS Research Aid Fund

Article 1 (Objective)

 

These bylaws set out detailed rules required to implement the JSSEAS Research Aid Fund Policy (hereinafter referred to as the “Policy”) in accordance with Article 5 of the Policy.

 

Article 2 (Securing Funds)

 

The JSSEAS Research Aid Fund (hereinafter referred to as the “Fund”) shall be secured and maintained based principally on contributions made by the Society members.

 

  1. The Society shall be continually open to contributions.

 

  1. Contributor names and contribution amounts shall not be disclosed.

 

Article 3 (Research Subsidies)

 

Research subsidies set out in Item 1, Article 3 of the Policy shall be provided in the following manner:

 

(1) Research subsidies shall be granted to those Society members who are young researchers with no regular occupation (not including fellowship PD and DC recipients of the Japan Society of the Promotion of Science).

(2) Research subsidies shall cover part of the travel expenses for making a research presentation at the Conference.

(3) In principle, only domestic transportation expenses shall be subsidized. Subsidy amounts shall be the minimum amount required for either railroad fare and limited express fee or airfare, whichever is the most reasonable route, and shall be assessed by the accounting staff.

 

Article 4 (Other Projects)

 

When implementing a project as set out in Item 2, Article 3 of the Policy, the JSSEAS Board of Directors shall deliberate on the matter.
