Monash Herb Feith Indonesian Engagement Centre looks forward to welcoming some of the world’s leading scholars in this field of study to share their expertise at the forthcoming conference, ‘Chinese Indonesians: Identities and Histories’.

In addition to two keynote addresses by distinguished scholars, the conference will host over 50 paper presentations and three roundtable sessions on a wide range of topics from a variety of disciplines, including Anthropology, Architecture, Cultural Studies, Diaspora, Environment, Gender, History, Human Rights, Language & Literature, Library Studies, Media, Music, Performing Arts, Politics, Postcolonial Studies, Queer Studies, Religion, Urban Studies, and Visual Arts.

Registered participants include scholars, journalists, activists, government officials, industry representatives, artists, students and teachers; with approximately half coming from outside Australia, including a third from Indonesia.

In addition to the academic program and intimate roundtable discussions, the conference will feature a series of events including library tours, book exhibitions and launches, exhibitions of photography and Peranakan batik, cooking and lantern making workshops, and art performance.
